To celebrate Melbourne Fashion Week, we sat down with ELK Co-Owner and Creative Director, Marnie Goding, to discover some of her favourite places in her beloved hometown of Melbourne. If you are visiting Melbourne or a local wanting an insiders tips, read on...

A few of your favourite things:

Visitors come to Melbourne from all around the world, to experience something unique and different. What are your favourites of each of the following and why?

Best coffee

Umberto Espresso Bar at 822 High St Thornbury. Marco and his father make strong, Italian style coffee in a relaxed, friendly and unpretentious environment. It is not too bitter and always the perfect temperature.

Favourite bar

Cumulus Up. It’s a beautiful space in the heart of Melbourne designed for drinks and has great bar food as a bonus. It's not too big, too loud or too boisterous. You feel like you can catch up with friends and be amongst it without yelling.

Favourite dining spot

Embla – it is amazing! Wood fired delicacies, amazing cheeses, a fantastic wine list, awesome service and a cosy banquette for cold nights!

Favourite spot for casual drinks

Geralds Bar in Rathdowne Street North Carlton. Great music, sensational wine list and amazingly tasty bar food….always the best pate in Melbourne!

Favourite shopping experience

Collingwood and Fitzroy are my favourite spots for a great mix of mostly Australian brands. Gertrude Street is still my favourite.

Favourite view

I love crossing the Bolte Bridge at night and seeing the whole city lit up.

Favourite activity for kids and families

Collingwood Children’s Farm

Favourite hidden gem

The Everleigh is tucked away in Fitzroy and is one of the best cocktail bars Melbourne has to offer. The staff make up recipes based on the ingredients you like and I have never been disappointed. It's well worth seeking out.

Finally, can you share a local secret from Melbourne? What is Melbourne’s best-kept secret that visitors would love to know?

We are biased of course but the original ELK Shop in Melbourne is a secret that our local ELK customers hold close to their hearts! We pride ourselves on customer service and really love to welcome people into our store and treat them like family. We love our regular and new customers dropping by for a shop and chat with the store team.

We are excited to feature at Melbourne Fashion Week in a free fashion runway event alongside six other much loved Australian labels. The runway show is on Friday 31st August in Union Lane at 1pm and again at 4pm and will feature 6 looks from our latest SS18 "Identity" collection.

Whilst in the area, make sure to drop by our ELK store at 182 Little Collins Street Melbourne which is an easy five-minute walk from the Union Lane fashion runway events.
